Esri GIS AwardJune 30, 2016 – Sioux Falls, SD: Midco received a Special Achievement in GIS (SAG) Award at the 2016 Esri User Conference in San Diego, CA, on June 29. The award recognizes companies around the world that do outstanding work with geographic information system (GIS) technology. Midco was one of 175 companies chosen to receive this award from more than 100,000 Esri clients around the globe.

Midco has transitioned to GIS mapping technology from Esri to create advanced, interactive maps of its fiber-optic network and coaxial cable networks.

GIS Award banner“Over the last few years, we’ve converted more than 10,000 AutoCAD maps – which were being produced by a third party – into GIS, allowing us to better visualize, analyze and interpret location data,” says Derek Rieckmann, GIS Manager at Midco. “Our maps evolve with our network in a timelier manner, and Midco has better data as we build service to new areas, prepare for and respond to emergencies, and more.”

Erin Hayes, Director of Corporate Construction, kicked off the GIS mapping project at Midco.

“I’m extremely proud of our Midco GIS team for making this vision become reality. They truly deserve this GIS award from Esri. Their hard work is really paying off in multiple areas, including helping Midco staff be more efficient and informed in developing business strategy,” says Hayes.

Rieckmann also participated in a panel discussion at the Esri User Conference, where he talked about the challenges and benefits of GIS implementation for businesses.
