Midco Foundation Awards 68 Grants

Sioux Falls, SD – The Midco Foundation has awarded $101,500 to 68 nonprofits, schools and government organizations. These grant recipients have been recognized as positive changemakers in their 36 respective communities. The grants are part of an ongoing commitment to giving back to the communities Midco serves.

“We are truly at a time in history where support is needed in so many areas at unprecedented levels. Midco is proud to be able to extend financial help to 68 organizations that are working tirelessly to provide support in their communities,” said Wynne Haakenstad, Chair and Executive Director of the Midco Foundation.

The Black Hills Works Foundation was one of the grant recipients.

“Sincere thanks to the Midco Foundation for its donation of $1,000 in support of new equipment and supplies for EchoWorks, an electronic recycling program that employs people with disabilities. Your gift will directly enhance the quality of life in our Rapid City community. Since submitting our grant request in March, we have already diverted more than 10,000 pounds of electronic waste from our landfill and employed two people with disabilities,” said Tamie Hopp, Director of Philanthropy at Black Hills Works Foundation.

The Falls Hunger Coalition also received a Midco Foundation grant.

“We are specifically using the Midco Foundation grant money to fund our snack pack program. Parents struggle during the summer months feeding their children. Last summer, we gave out more than 900 bags to children in Koochiching County. We love to see the excitement when the kids come to pick up their bags. They can’t wait to dig in and see what we’ve put together for them,” said Ashley Hall, Falls Hunger Coalition’s Executive Director. “Without your support, our food shelf would not be able to serve the vast needs of our area. The Midco Foundation is a valuable asset to our community!”

Since its inception in 1987, the Midco Foundation has donated more than $4.5 million to support the work of non-profit organizations, local governments and schools. The Foundation board reviews and approves funding requests to charitable entities twice a year and encourages nonprofit organizations in the communities it serves to apply for future grants for special projects, facilities improvements, equipment and programs. This past spring, the Midco Foundation donated $250,000 to area food banks to address food insecurity due to COVID-19.
