Midco Golf Event Raises $24,000 for Charity

Sioux Falls, SD: Two organizations are the recipients of $12,000 each following the 23rd annual Midco® Charity Invitational, held on September 6 at Spring Creek Country Club in Harrisburg. The 18-hole scramble raised $24,000 for Family Promise of Lawrence and New Pathways of Minnesota, breaking the previous record of $22,000, which benefited the The Compass Center in 2016.

Family Promise of Lawrence aims to transform the lives of homeless children and their families through safe shelter, food, counseling and training. Since 2008, the program has been serving families through partnerships with local congregations and organizations. Families receive services that are needed to regain permanent sustainable housing and 86% of those families remain stably housed after a two-year period.

"Family Promise of Lawrence is so grateful to receive this generous gift from Midco,” says Family Promise Director of Development Becky Peters. "This donation allows us to continue to expand our Temporary Housing program, most recently increasing the number of families we can serve to 20 at one time. As we continue to grow our service offerings in response to community needs, the generous support of partners such as Midco help make our communities stronger. The Family Promise model is truly a community effort and we are grateful to Midco for their partnership in a solution to family homelessness."

New Pathways is a similar program serving the families of homeless children in central Minnesota. The organization provides sleeping accommodations, three meals a day, case management, skills training and a safe environment.

“We thank Midco for its generous gift to New Pathways,” says New Pathways Executive Director Pamela Streed. “This donation will help us continue to provide family education, a safe place to stay, and other support services to families experiencing homelessness. This gift was especially timely due to some funding changes at the federal level. I’m so impressed by Midco giving back so generously to the communities it serves. You are definitely making a big difference!”

“Midco is about much more than delivering quality service to our customers,” says Jon Pederson, Midco Chief Technology Officer. “That’s only part of what we do. We recognize it’s important to help the communities we serve. Each year we carefully select charities that are recommended by our leadership team. This year we are proud to have selected these two organizations and help in their efforts to fight childhood homelessness.”

The Midco golf tournament has been a charitable event for 15 years, with almost $200,000 donated to local nonprofits. This year, 23 teams – made up of Midco employees and vendor sponsors – participated in the tournament.
