Email Storage Limits

Each email address has a limit for storage on our mail server. Starting December 4, 2017, each Midco email account will have a storage limit of 5 GB. A warning is issued when your inbox is approaching that storage limit (your "email quota").

Once you reach your storage limit, you will be unable to receive any new messages until you free up storage space. If you are near the limit and someone sends you an email that includes a large data file – such as one with a large document or image – you may not receive that email if its size would cause your inbox to exceed your storage limit. The sender of that email will receive a message that you did not receive the email because your inbox is full.

Please note that all emails are calculated in these limits, including emails stores in the Sent, Trash, Drafts and other email folders.

Here are some things you can do to free up space:

  • Delete emails from your Junk and Trash folders
  • Delete old emails you no longer need. Delete old promotional emails, newsletters, notifications and mailing list messages.
  • Save important emails to your computer. Look for emails with large attachments – such as photos – to see what’s taking up most of your storage.

Helpful hint: To ensure you don’t exceed the space limit and can receive new messages, make sure you save any incoming mail that includes a photo, video or other large file to your computer and delete the email from your webmail.

If you primarily use a PC-based email client or a mobile device to check your email:

PC-based email programs like Outlook, Mac Mail, Windows Live Mail, etc., normally download and store email on your computer but can be set to leave a copy on the mail server so it can be accessed through Webmail, a cell phone or other portable device. You can adjust your email account properties to free up space if you receive a quota warning.

Please check your preferred email program’s support section for detailed steps on how to set your properties so emails do not build up on the server. Below are two common email programs with helpful information, though other programs use similar steps and settings.
