Wireless Setup

Below is related information and resources for wireless network setup on wireless devices.

An additional option for Midco® Cable TV subscribers is to locate the Tech Tips folder in the On Demand main menu.

Your wireless network name, or SSID, and wireless network key will be required. Both items are available to you by signing into My Account. Once signed in, click the View Network Key link located under the Internet section to display the information.

If you are unable to configure a device or if it is not listed below, please contact your device provider or manufacturer for additional support.

Phone and Tablet Tutorials

Apple

  1. Have your wireless network name, or SSID, and wireless network key (password) available. Both items are available through My Account.  After signing in, click the View Network Key link under the Internet section.
  2. On your iPhone tap Settings icon.
  3. Tap Wi-Fi.
  4. Confirm Wi-Fi is set to ON - if not, tap OFF to enable it.
  5. Wi-Fi networks will show available wireless networks. Tap the wireless network name (SSID) you would like to join.
  6. Enter the wireless network password (also called a network key) and tap Join.
  7. Tap OFF next to Ask to Join Networks to automatically join networks device has joined previously.
  8. Once connected, press the Home button to return to the Home screen.

Android

  1. From the Home screen, tap the Apps icon (located at bottom edge of screen).
  2. Swipe to locate and tap Settings.
  3. Select Wi-Fi.
  4. Tap your wireless network name or the network name you would like to join.
  5. Enter the wireless network password (also called a network key).
  6. Tap Connect.
  7. Once connected and ready to browse, it will show Connected under the wireless network name.
  8. Tap the Home icon (located at bottom edge of screen) to return to your Home screen.

Amazon Kindle

  1. Have your wireless network name, or SSID, and wireless network key (password) available. Both items are available through My Account.  After signing in, click the View Network Key link under the Internet section.
  2. On your Kindle, press the Home button, then select Menu.
  3. Use the 5-way controller to select Settings.
  4. Next to Wi-Fi Settings, choose View to show available wireless networks.
    • You may have to wait a moment as the Kindle detects networks in range.
    • You may have to answer Yes to turn the wireless on.
  5. Choose Connect next to the wireless network you would like to join.
  6. Enter the wireless network key (password) and select Submit. Use the SYM key to enter any numbers or symbols in the password, and the Shift for uppercase characters.
  7. Once connected, press the Home button to return to the home screen.

Amazon Kindle Fire

  1. Have your wireless network name, or SSID, and wireless network key (password) available. Both items are available through My Account.  After signing in, click the View Network Key link under the Internet section.
  2. Tap the Quick Settings icon on the top right hand corner of Home screen.
  3. Tap Wi-Fi.
  4. Ensure Wireless Network is set to ON. If not, tap ON to enable it.
    • A list of networks will appear. It may take a moment for the Kindle Fire to detect networks in range.
    • If networks don't appear, tap OFF, then ON next to Wireless Networking to refresh the list.
  5. Tap the wireless network you would like to join.
    • When viewing Kindle Fire in landscape (horizontal) view, you may need to scroll through the list of available networks, using your finger to swipe through the list.
  6. Enter the wireless network key (password) and tap Connect.
    • Tap the 123!? key to enter numbers or symbols.
    • Tap the ABC key to return to the regular keyboard.
    • Tap the Shift key (up arrow) for uppercase letters.
  7. Once connected, tap the Home icon in the lower left corner to return to the home screen.

Note: Once connected to a wireless network, Kindle Fire automatically connects to it again whenever that network is in range. If more than one previously used network is in range, your Kindle Fire automatically connects to the most recently used network.

Google Chromebook

  1. Have your wireless network name, or SSID, and wireless network key (password) available. Both items are available through My Account.  After signing in, click the View Network Key link under the Internet section.
  2. Click the network icon — either chromebook1 or chromebook2 in the lower-right corner of your screen.
  3. Select the No Network option to provide a list of in-range available networks.
  4. Once the menu loads, if you see chromebook3, wireless is off.
    To change this, simply click on chromebook3 until you see chromebook4 indicating Wi-Fi is enabled.
  5. Select the network you wish to connect to from list of available networks.
  6. Enter the wireless network key (password) in the Password window. There is an icon to the right of this box that will allow you to see the password or have it hidden.
  7. Click Connect to confirm password.
  8. To confirm connection, click on the chromebook1 icon, and where you previously saw No Network in the menu, it will now show Connected to “[Name of Network]”.

Nook Color

  1. Have your wireless network name, or SSID, and wireless network key (password) available. Both items are available through My Account.  After signing in, click the View Network Key link under the Internet section.
  2. Turn on the Nook and press the Nook button.
  3. Tap Settings in the Quick Nav bar.
  4. Under Device Settings, tap Wireless.
  5. Make sure Wi-Fi is set to On. If not, tap Off to change it and enable Wi-Fi.
  6. Wireless networks will show the available wireless networks. Tap the network you would like to join, and then select Connect.
  7. Enter the wireless network key (password), and tap Connect.
  8. Connected to the Internet will display beneath the wireless network name once connected.
  9. Press the Nook button to return to the home screen.

 

Game System Tutorials

Microsoft XBOX

  1. Have your wireless network name, or SSID, and wireless network key (password) available. Both items are available through My Account.  After signing in, click the View Network Key link under the Internet section.
  2. Confirm your Xbox is connected to a television, and both the TV and Xbox are powered on.
  3. Press the Xbox Guide button on the Xbox controller.
  4. Press the right arrow button to highlight System Settings, and use the green A button to enter that menu.
  5. Arrow down to Network Settings and press the green A button.
  6. Use the arrow buttons to highlight Configure Network and press the green A button.
  7. Highlight Scan for Networks and press the green A button.
  8. Select Wireless Network will show available wireless networks. Use the up or down arrow buttons to highlight the wireless network you would like to join and press the green A button.
  9. Enter the wireless network key (password) and press the green A button to connect.
  10. Once connected, press the Xbox Guide button to return to the home screen.

Xbox One

  • Have your wireless network name, or SSID, and wireless network key (password) available. Both items are available through My Account.  After signing in, click the View Network Key link under the Internet section.
  • Press the Menu button on the Xbox One controller.
  • Select Settings.
  • Choose Network.
  • Select Setup wireless network on the left side of screen.
  • Locate and select the correct wireless network under Which one's yours?
  • Enter your wireless network password.

Nintendo Wii

  1. Have your wireless network name, or SSID, and wireless network key (password) available. Both items are available through My Account.  After signing in, click the View Network Key link under the Internet section.
  2. Confirm the Wii is connected to a television, and that the TV and Wii are powered on.
  3. From the Wii main menu, click on Wii Options in the lower left hand corner using the Wii controller A button.
  4. Select the Wii Settings icon.
  5. Choose the right arrow in the Wii System Settings menu.
  6. Click on the Internet menu bar when it appears.
  7. Select the Connection Settings menu bar, and click on Connection 1 (or any connection that has None listed).
  8. Click on Wireless Connection.
  9. Choose Search for An Access Point.
  10. Click OK.
  11. You will see any available wireless networks. Use the up or down arrow buttons to highlight the wireless network you would like to join.
  12. Press the A button.
  13. Click in the password or key field and enter the wireless network key (password).
  14. Select OK twice to exit the keyboard and confirm the password entered.
  15. Click OK to save the settings.
  16. Choose OK to begin a wireless connection test.
  17. Click on Use This Connection.
  18. Once connected, press the home key on the Wii controller to return to the Wii main menu.

Sony Playstation 3

  1. Have your wireless network name, or SSID, and wireless network key (password) available. Both items are available through My Account.  After signing in, click the View Network Key link under the Internet section.
  2. Confirm the Playstation is connected to a television and that the TV and Playstation are powered on.
  3. From the home menu, use the right arrow button on the Playstation 3 controller to highlight the Settings menu, which looks like a toolbox.
  4. Use the down arrow button to highlight Network Settings.
  5. Press the blue X button.
  6. Use the up and down arrow buttons to highlight Internet Connection and confirm it shows Enabled. If not, press the blue X button, and then arrow up to highlight Enable and press the blue X button to enable it.
  7. Use the down arrow button to highlight Internet Connection Settings.
  8. Press the blue X button.
  9. Press the blue X button again to confirm you want to change or setup an internet connection.
  10. Highlight the Easy setup option and press the blue X button.
  11. Use the down arrow button to highlight Wireless and press the blue X button.
  12. In the WLAN Settings menu, use the up arrow button to highlight Scan and press the blue X button.
  13. WLAN Settings will show available wireless networks. Use the up and down arrows to highlight the wireless network you would like to join. Take note of the security type listed (WPA2-PSK for example) as this will be asked in a following screen.
  14. Press the blue X button, and then press it again to confirm the wireless network name.
  15. Use the up and down arrows to highlight the security type shown in the prior screen.
  16. Press the right arrow to continue.
  17. Enter the wireless network key (password). Press the blue X button to bring up an on-screen keyboard. Press the Start button to exit the keyboard. The password will display as eight stars regardless of its actual length.
  18. Press the right arrow to continue.
  19. Skip any additional settings if prompted.
  20. Press the blue X button to confirm the wireless settings entered.
  21. Press the blue X button to begin a wireless network connection test.
  22. Once connected, press the Playstation button to return to the home screen.

Play Station 4

  1. Have your wireless network name, or SSID, and wireless network key (password) available. Both items are available through My Account.  After signing in, click the View Network Key link under the Internet section.
  2. Select Network.
  3. Choose Set Up Internet Connection.
  4. Select Use Wi-Fi.
  5. Choose Easy.
  6. Select the correct wireless network name (SSID) from the list.
  7. Choose the default settings for any remaining selections.

 

TV / Blu-Ray Player Tutorials

Vizio Smart TV

  1. Have your wireless network name, or SSID, and wireless network key (password) available. Both items are available through My Account.  After signing in, click the View Network Key link under the Internet section.
  2. Confirm your TV is powered on.
  3. Press Menu on the TV remote control.
  4. Use the arrow buttons to highlight Network and press OK.
  5. Network Connections will show available wireless networks. Use the up and down arrows to highlight the wireless network you would like to join.
  6. Press the blue OK button.
  7. Enter the wireless network key (password). Use the onscreen keyboard or – if available – the keyboard on the TV remote.
  8. Use up and down arrows to highlight Connect and press OK.
  9. Once connected, press the menu button to exit menus.

Vizio Smart Blu-Ray Player

  1. Have your wireless network name, or SSID, and wireless network key (password) available. Both items are available through My Account. After signing in, click the View Network Key link under the Internet section.
  2. Confirm the Blu-Ray player is connected to the TV and that both are powered on.
  3. Use the left and right arrow buttons on the Blu-ray player remote to highlight Settings.
  4. Press the OK/Select button.
  5. Use the left and right arrow buttons to highlight Network and press OK/Select.
  6. Use the up and down arrow buttons to highlight Wireless and press OK/Select.
  7. Use the up and down arrow buttons to highlight Network List and press OK/Select.
  8. Network List will show available wireless networks. Use the up and down arrows to highlight the wireless network you would like to join and press OK.
  9. Enter the wireless network key (password). Use the onscreen keyboard or – if available – the keyboard on the TV remote.
  10. Use the up and down arrows to highlight Connect and press OK/Select.
  11. Once connected, press the menu button to exit the menus.

 

Operating System Tutorials

Mac OS X

  1. Have your wireless network name, or SSID, and wireless network key (password) available. Both items are available through My Account. After signing in, click the View Network Key link under the Internet section.
  2. From the desktop, click on the Airport icon, which looks like radio waves, in the upper right corner.
  3. If it shows Airport Off, click on Turn Airport On to enable it.
  4. The Airport section will show available wireless networks. Click on the wireless network you would like to join.
  5. Enter the wireless network key (password), in the Password window and click OK to confirm the password.
  6. Once connected, the Airport list will show a check mark next to the connected wireless network name. The Airport symbol in the upper right corner will indicate you connection strength.

Windows 7

  1. Have your wireless network name, or SSID, and wireless network key (password) available. Both items are available through My Account. After signing in, click the View Network Key link under the Internet section.
  2. From the desktop, click on the wireless network icon, which looks like five signal bars, in the lower right corner.
  3. The Wireless Network Connection section will show available wireless networks. Click on the wireless network you would like to join and select Connect.
  4. Enter the wireless network key (password) in the Connect to a Network window. Click OK to confirm the password.
  5. Once connected, the wireless network icon will show Connected if you mouse over it. The wireless icon in the lower right will indicate your connection strength.

Windows 10 

  1. Have your wireless network name, or SSID, and wireless network key (password) available. Both items are available through My Account. After signing in, click the View Network Key link under the Internet section.
  2. From the desktop, click on the wireless network icon, which looks like radio signal bars, in the lower right corner.
  3. The Wireless Network Connection section will show available wireless networks. Click on the wireless network you would like to join and select Connect.
  4. Enter the wireless network key (password) in the Enter The Network Security Key window and click Next to confirm the password.
  5. Once connected, the wireless network icon will show Connected if you mouse over it. The wireless icon in the lower right will indicate your connection strength.
