Midco Partners with FCC to Bridge Digital Divide in Pine County

Pine County, MN – In partnership with the Federal Communications Commission’s Rural Digital Opportunity Fund (RDOF), Midco continues to bridge the digital divide across Minnesota. Midco was recently awarded $1.34 million in the RDOF auction to build out internet services to 1,037 homes, farms and businesses in Pine County.

“Most of these homes and businesses will have Midco’s fiber-to-the-premises (FTTP) services. Our current FTTP services offer some of the fastest speeds in America at 5 Gbps symmetrical for both uploads and downloads,” said Government Relations Manager Melissa Wolf.

Midco’s construction in Rock Creek will begin this year, and some locations will start receiving broadband by the end of the year. The regional communications company will serve Pine County’s new service areas with fiber broadband capable of delivering 5 Gbps of download and upload speeds. This partnership with the FCC compliments Midco’s ongoing network expansion plans in Pine County.

High-speed internet access is critical to economic opportunity, job creation, education and civic engagement. RDOF will direct up to $20.4 billion to expand broadband in unserved rural areas.
