Midco Invests $30 Million in Next-Gen Fiber

June 2, 2022 – Lawrence, KS: Midco® is leaping ahead with Fiber Forward, an investment that uses the company’s robust fiber network and next-gen fiber tech to bring 10 Gig (10G) speeds to Lawrence and its surrounding communities.

“Fiber Forward is an investment in Kansans. This transformative fiber upgrade will benefit the many folks we serve,” said Midco President & COO Tom McAdaragh. “It will provide fast symmetrical speeds, low latency, unmatched reliability and rock-solid security. Telehealth professionals, online learners, entrepreneurs, gamers and so many more will benefit from Fiber Forward.”

Over the next few years, more than 65,000 homes and businesses in Kansas will benefit from the future-proof $30 million investment. Fiber Forward will begin this year in Basehor, Eudora and Lawrence to deliver fiber upgrades, enhanced product offerings and increased performance. The upgrade is expected to be completed by the end of 2025.

“Broadband deployment and improvement are critical for the future of Kansas and can unlock new opportunities for our state,” said Sen. Jerry Moran. “The investment Midco announced today to upgrade its networks in Kansas will provide a new generation of broadband service for businesses and create new opportunities to innovate and connect.”

"Investment in broadband infrastructure is vital to expanding our communities and growing our local economies. It's simply unacceptable for households in Kansas, especially those in our rural communities, to lack access to reliable high-speed internet. We must do everything we can to provide Kansans with the broadband services they need to succeed," said Rep. Jake LaTurner. "This crucial funding from Midco through their Fiber Forward investment program will help close the digital divide and connect thousands of Kansans to the rest of the world."

"Education is part of Lawrence’s fabric. From higher education to preschool, broadband is essential for learning,” said Lawrence Mayor Courtney Shipley. “This investment from Midco will help make broadband more accessible for all learners and continue to close the digital divide.”

Fiber Forward will lead to improved economic development, education and quality of life in Kansas. Midco knows that a strong, reliable network not only tightens our connection to each other, it connects Kansas with the world.

The company’s Fiber Forward announcement comes on the heels of its five-year anniversary in Kansas. Community connection has been at the forefront during that time. Midco has partnered with the Douglas County Boys & Girls Club, Just Food and the Lawrence Public Library, lifting up valued programming and supporting important community needs. Midco is also a proud sponsor of KU Athletics.
