Is Gig Right for Me?

Considering Midco Xstream Gig? Here’s what you need to ask yourself:

  1. How many devices do you have online at the same time on your home network?
Chances are, it’s a lot. Think about all the devices that connect to your network – computers, phones and tablets, TVs, thermostats, appliances, toys, and more.
  2. Does having multiple users online at the same time affect everyone’s experience?
The amount of bandwidth you have is split between the devices using the network. So devices have to compete – sometimes resulting in buffering, slower downloads and lag time during a game.

The more people and devices you have online, the more likely Midco Xstream Gig is right for you

Business Benefits

Businesses throughout the Midco footprint will soon have access to gigabit internet via cable modem, too!

While Midco has offered gigabit Ethernet via direct fiber for years, Midco Business Xstream Gig is a cost-effective way for smaller businesses to enjoy the benefits of gigabit internet. With the large amount of bandwidth Gig provides for your business network, multiple users will be able to be online at the same time, working and downloading without being impacted by each other's online activities.

What do I need to get gigabit speeds?

You’ll need the new DOCSIS 3.1 modem, which make gigabit speeds via modem possible and affordable to homes and businesses. Right now, you can lease a wired Midco-provided DOCSIS 3.1 modem to get gigabit speeds.

The biggest challenge for this new technology is getting inventory. This technology is so new, it’s coming right from the manufacturer vendors – and that’s why we’re conducting thorough testing in advance of launching gigabit speeds across our footprint.

We’re currently testing other wired and wireless modems in order to add them to our Midco approved modems list. At this time, third-party wired modems are not yet tested and qualified to work on our network. We’ll update the list as we qualify other modems.

Gigabit and Wi-Fi

If you want gigabit service and Wi-Fi, you will also need a gigabit-capable wireless router. You can purchase this router on your own, but be sure to look for a router with the following specifications:

  • Gigabit Ethernet ports
  • 802.11 AC - AC1900 or above
  • Dual Core processor

Below are a few gigabit-capable wireless routers that meet those specifications, available through various retailers. Please note that Midco does not endorse, provide or support third-party routers.

Services are not available in all areas, and some restrictions apply. Visit Midco.com/Shop, and enter your service address to determine service availability and if you qualify for certain offers and/or multi-service discounts. You can also contact us at Midco.com/Contact.
1 Actual internet speeds may vary depending on your computer or mobile device’s capability and the number of devices accessing the internet at once. Higher speeds may also be impacted by third-party equipment such as your router or the limitations of wireless technology. A DOCSIS 3.1 modem is required for Midco Xstream Gig.
