Midco Gig

The Future is Gigabit

We’re committed to bringing gigabit internet speeds to our entire service area – from the region’s smallest towns to its largest cities. For years, we’ve delivered gigabit speeds and higher (up to eight terabits per second) through direct fiber connections to larger business customers. Now, Midco Xstream® Gig will expand speeds for consumers and smaller businesses.

First Stop: Fargo and Sioux Falls Areas

The Fargo-West Fargo-Moorhead area will be the first to get gig from Midco. Right now, we’re conducting beta testing with select customers in the area – and we'll announce rollout to the entire metro area in the coming months. After Fargo, Midco will launch gig in Sioux Falls next. Watch for more details here!

New Modem Technology

We’ve offered gigabit speeds for years via direct, dedicated fiber to businesses. Now, this modem, also known as a DOCSIS 3.1 modem, makes gigabit internet connectivity possible and affordable to homes and businesses.

In 2016, we’ve been preparing our network to accommodate the modem and the bandwidth that comes with it. We’re testing the modem with employees and now with a small group of Fargo-area customers.

The biggest challenge is getting inventory. This technology is so new, it’s coming right from the manufacturer vendors – and that’s why we’re conducting thorough tests in advance.

Gigabit Facts

Our gig speeds are 35 times the national average and nearly five times faster than our current fastest. Midco Xstream Gig offers up to 940 Mbps downloads and up to 20 Mbps uploads.

You'll need a DOCSIS 3.1 modem. We're also transitioning all cable channels to digital quality, requiring a cable box or digital adapter for TVs in your home or business.

We’ll launch gigabit in waves of communities. Fargo is up first, followed by Sioux Falls and other towns and rural areas to be announced.
