The Future is Gigabit
We’re committed to bringing gigabit internet speeds to our entire service area – from the region’s smallest towns to its largest cities. Midco Gig is now available for nearly all of our customers – and we're excited about all the possibilities it brings.
Is Gig Right for Me?
Considering Midco Gig? Here’s what you need to ask yourself:
- How many devices do you have online at the same time on your home network?
Chances are, it’s a lot. Think about all the devices that connect to your network – computers, phones and tablets, TVs, thermostats, appliances, toys, and more.
- Does having multiple users online at the same time affect everyone’s experience?
The amount of bandwidth you have is split between the devices using the network. So devices have to compete – sometimes resulting in buffering, slower downloads and lag time during a game.
The more people and devices you have online, the more likely Midco Gig is right for you.
Businesses throughout the Midco footprint will soon have access to gigabit internet via cable modem, too!
While Midco has offered gigabit Ethernet via direct fiber for years, Midco Gig is a cost-effective way for smaller businesses to enjoy the benefits of gigabit internet. With the large amount of bandwidth it provides for your business network, multiple users will be able to be online at the same time, working and downloading without being impacted by each other's online activities.
What do I need to get gigabit speeds?
You’ll need the new DOCSIS 3.1 modem, which make gigabit speeds via modem possible and affordable to homes and businesses. Right now, you can lease a wired Midco-provided DOCSIS 3.1 modem to get gigabit speeds.
The biggest challenge for this new technology is getting inventory. This technology is so new, it’s coming right from the manufacturer vendors – and that’s why we’re conducting thorough testing in advance of launching gigabit speeds across our footprint.
We’re currently testing other wired and wireless modems in order to add them to our Midco approved modems list. At this time, third-party wired modems are not yet tested and qualified to work on our network. We’ll update the list as we qualify other modems.
You want to be connected without the wires – which is why Midco has been testing and now offers a DOCSIS 3.1 wireless modem to use in your home. The combination of powerful, advanced features means everyone can stream, download, play and browse on all your devices.
